Welcome
Hi, I’m Alex, founder of The Whole Brain SLP. I provide speech-language and cognitive assessment and intervention from adolescence through adulthood, as well as early intervention screenings. I have worked as a licensed Speech Language Pathologist since 2012 with focus on serving those with neurological based cognitive communication disorders due to brain injury, stroke, progressive degenerative disease, dementia, and others.
I earned my Master of Arts degree in Speech Language and Hearing Sciences from San Diego State University, after which I completed my clinical fellowship at the Naval Medical Center San Diego. For the following eight years I continued to work as a speech language pathologist in both inpatient and outpatient capacities providing assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of communication disorders including: cognitive-linguistic and social communication impairments, language deficits (such as aphasia), and motor speech disorders secondary to neurologic event or insult to the brain and/or progressive neurodegenerative disorders. Additionally, I provided assessment and treatment of dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), prosthetic voice modalities, consultations on behalf of a craniofacial team, and finally, assessment of pediatric language delays.
Following my time working at the Naval Medical Center, I worked for San Diego State University’s Speech Language Clinic as a graduate school clinical supervisor as well as an interim instructor for the San Diego State School of Speech Language and Hearing Sciences, teaching Neuroanatomy, Speech and Language Disorders.
Our Purpose
The Whole Brain SLP was founded due to a lack of access to ongoing care for patients following a neurologic event (i.e. brain injury/stroke), thus possibly limiting potential for reintegration into society and previously held responsibilities, vocations, relationships, and activities of daily living. Providing treatment for cognitive-communication impairments can promote beneficial neuroplasticity (the brain’s ability to reorganize it’s structure following injury for restoration of function) and facilitate a patient’s ability to reintegrate, gain independence and function.
Aside from direct patient care, The Whole Brain SLP also provides education and support for caregivers and family given the very important role they play in recovery. Looking forward to working together.
